Oscar Palencia – Guatemalan photographer extraordinaire
Young, dynamic and professional, Oscar Palencia is a photographer with an excellent eye and understanding of content and color. He calls La Antigua, Guatemala, his home, and I am honored to be working with him. Through his talent and enthusiasm, Oscar is the "official" photographer of The Maya Conservancy and Jades, SA. He accompanied us for the 8 B'atz' ceremonies in Momostenango (around February 6, 2010) for the most recent New Year/first day rituals for the initiation of the current sacred 260-day calendar. He will be with us for our June Mission Izapa 2010.
Oscar is currently involved with an ongoing project with Vincent Stanzione to document modern Maya ritual and ceremony throughout Guatemala. Check out their excellent coverage of the most recent "Fruit of the Tuztujil" ceremony on my Santiago Atitlán tab and below in this photo gallery. I truly thank Oscar for the use of his photography in my masthead and throughout this site. Check out his website, with even more excellent images at: www.opalencia.com
